Exhibiting at Maker Faire 2011As a 12 year old I was so excited to be at Maker Faire exhibiting my "covert security system". I really enjoyed talking to all the visitors! | My official exhibitor sign. |

Prototyping & programming sensorsI spent many hours protoyping the secret security system with distance sensors that when tripped would send a silent signal through the Arduino Mega to change my computer system - to alert me to an intruder! I had a different computer backround for each room so I would know where the intruder was. | Sensors, breadboard, Arduino |
Setting up my exhibit at Maker Faire | Sensor tripped - computer changedThis is an example of how my computer screen is changed when someone trips a censor. |
Dollhouse with Sensors in RoomsI did live demos at Maker Faire - visitors put their hand in a room in the dollhouse, tripped a sensor and could see how my computer screen changed to a different picture to silently alert me to the intruder. | Make Magazine Article April 2012Make Magazine interviewed me and wrote an article about my "Notify Me Now" project and my maker activities. (Vol. 30 April 2012) |
Intel Corp. Took NoticeIntel noticed my project and it apparently contributed to their inspiration to get more involved in the maker movement and to develop boards for makers! |
Notify Me Now!
This project was my very first Maker Faire NY project in 2011! This was a covert security system using sensors, which when tripped, would change the background of my computer screen. To demo this project at Maker Faire, I used a doll house and wired up several ping motion sensors in the rooms - each one that got tripped by someone entering the room would change the background screen on my computer to a different picture.
I was "inspired" to build this secret detection system so I would know when someone unauthorized went into my bedroom but they would not realize I was alerted so I could catch them if I wanted to! Make Magazine featured my project in Volume 20 - you can see the article here.
